I sent the following letter to my state senator, Stephen M. Saland, this morning, in response to Governor Cuomo’s introduction of the program marriage bill yesterday. Saland is notorious (at least to me) for his stated opposition to same-sex marriage.

You have to love the Golden Girls, and especially Sophia, for being so far ahead of so many people.
… and it says that the state may not legally bar same-sex marriage.
It would seem that this will lead to California joining Massachusetts, currently the only US state where same-sex marriage is legal.
Also ahead on this front are Vermont, Connecticut, New Hampshire and my home state of New Jersey. These four states [...]
