it’s so incredibly easy to get caught up in the day-to-day and lose sight of the bigger picture. at least that’s true for me … i’m more interested in the details.

on friday i drove up to boston to spend the weekend with erica. i haven’t seen her in over a year … it was actually august of 2004! it was hardly a whirlwind tour of boston, but i wasn’t expecting one. it was a chance to catch up, update, chit chat … whatever you like to call it.

but it was a grounding experience. in many ways, despite the changes in our lives, nothing has changed. she’s nuts, i’m nuts, and we’re just a year older.

it’s important to value our old friends. i’ve known erica for almost ten years, and there’s inherently something important in that. she understands my roots, how i became who i am today. but at the same time, i’m thankful for the new people in my life … some very, very new people are making a difference in my life in huge ways, and i love them for it.
