watching eagles eat
sometimes life is unbearably funny and awkward at the same time.
last night i had dinner with the eagles. it’s the gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered group at work, and we get together for dinners once a quarter. inevitably, the boys sit at one end of the table, and the girls sit at the other end. i think that’s unfortunate, because i like some of the ladies and regret not having had the chance to chat with them more.
however, last night the gentlemen were on fire. i was offered not one, not two, but three dull butter knives with which to slit my wrists after some hyperbole or another. but in perhaps the best line of the evening came after dinner. we were enjoying some coffee, our bellies full and our minds engaged. paul mentioned how much he liked the coffee cups, and i said, “yes, they’re quite ladylike.” and then … wait for it … peter added:
“but masculine enough to fit three fingers!”
the table erupted in laughter. (if you don’t understand why, then this whole blog posting is of no consequence. please discontinue reading.)
this is what makes eagle dinners so much fun. so if you were there, thanks for joining us. if you weren’t and should have been, shame on you.
