let’s all celebrate, and have a good time

although i’m still half asleep, and i’ve barely started my coffee this morning, i’m overdue for an update here. after a very full and fulfilling weekend … here goes!

on saturday paul and i drove down to long island. it’s never a fun drive. never. but on this particular saturday, we were looking forward to celebrating a wedding. paul’s uncle al married his girlfriend linda. now, we love linda. she is as sweet as can be, and from what paul says, she’s been an incredibly good force in uncle al’s life.

lynn and i did manage to drag paul out onto the dance floor for a little while. he’s so cute, but he just doesn’t like to dance until he’s … ahem … sufficiently lowered his inhibitions. i think the highlight of the afternoon for most people would have been lynn and me dancing to don’t cha by the pussycat dolls. it was a good time … and i was sober!

on sunday, the celebrations continued … paul and i have been together for six years. ah, it seems like only yesterday … and we’ve never had a fight! (yeah right!) in typical fashion, at least lately, we started out our morning at the gym. but afterwards, we diverted from our normal sunday routine.

paul and i have both wanted to go to dia:beacon for a while now, and yesterday we finally did! it was an incredible experience … the art there is on such a huge scale that it encourages you to really wander among the pieces and explore, expressing your curiosity along the way. on our way home, we wandered a bit on main street in beacon, which is really starting to have something of a renaissance. (at least on that one block.) i recommend stopping at hudson beach glass in the old firehouse if you like to see blown glass items … very cool.

since there aren’t any movies out in the theaters that we’re burning to see, we stopped by the video store on the way home. we ended up with sideways and kinsey, and watched both. despite having heard excellent reviews from intelligent people about sideways, we didn’t love it. it progressed very slowly, and i was of course horrified by the lack of explicit closure. (no real spoilers there.) kinsey, on the other hand, was excellent. it’s amazing to realize how long ago that work was done … and yet how little progress society has made in the intervening years. society still believes it can dictate what is normal and what isn’t, and i frankly object. in any case, run, don’t walk, to see it if you haven’t already.

Yay!! Congrats on the anniversary. How many years is that in “gay years”? Probably almost a silver anniversary, right?

I’ve always wondered whether the dia’s art would excite me. I see it in the paper often and just can’t decide whether I can really consider that art. I guess I just have to go and find out for myself though.

I haven’t seen either of those movies, but def. want to see Kinsey, especially after your excellent review.

While you were having, such an exciting weekend, I was suffering through strep throat!! :-(
